Returning from injury for her second season with the Trident Homes Tactix, Greer Sinclair is making the most of her opportunities on court. She talks about the challenge of the Magic this week, her move into the centre bib and what Game Day means to her.
You missed part of last season through injury, what’s it like being back on court with the Tactix in the opening few rounds of the ANZ Premiership?
It is so good being back. Honestly, I’m so happy to be back playing in this team. I’ve worked really hard to get my foot back to one hundred per cent and fitness back to pre-injury levels, so I’m proud and very excited to keep pushing for these wins.
You played centre during the win over the Mystics in Round 3 – did you enjoy the switch in position and how hard is it to adapt your game moving further up the court?
I've been training in centre a bit throughout our trainings, and I’ve enjoyed it. I've grown up being a defender so yeah, it is a little different switching into that attacking mindset. But I've always liked to throw a long bomb in, so this gives me a little more freedom to do this, ha ha. I'm up for any challenge!
Who were your netball/sporting idols growing up and why?
I grew up loving Casey Kopua and Laura Langman. Hard workers and GOATs.
If you could change a netball rule, what would it be and why?
I would bring the Aussie power play in. I love it – it’s so exciting to watch and play!
The game against the Mystics got close in the dying stages – what do you and the Tactix team do to maintain composure when the pressure comes on?
We train for it. We do pressure sets at our training sessions going over a lot of scenarios under pressure to practice it.
What’s your earliest memories from the netball court or sport?
My earliest memories would be playing in our backyard after dinner most nights when I was young. Dad and I versus mum and my sister – I won’t disclose who always won.
What’s your favourite dessert?
I am a sucker for chocolate. Chocolate mousse or chocolate ice cream is the way to my heart.
The Magic are coming off their first win of the season so will have gained confidence from that and will be in front of a home crowd – what’s it going to take for the Tactix to get the win over the Magic?
Yeah, you can never take the Magic easy as they will always bring it. I think it’s important to use the momentum from the Mystics game and just come out being ruthless. Lots of energy and going for everything. Their home crowd is always huge - so connections are key, and we need to be the louder, more hungry team.
Netball is a large part of your life – what gets you excited about Game Day?
What doesn't?? It’s my favourite day of the week – waking up with the girls, coffee, wasting them at buckets during captains run, having a yummy brunch together, trying to have a nap and then getting amped to take court!
Is there any netball advice you’d like to give a young Greer Sinclair starting out in sport?
Have fun! Play lots of sports and this will help. And when you get to the age where you only begin to play netball then do the extras to prepare yourself physically and mentally.
