It’s a big weekend for the Trident Homes Tactix with a double-header at home in Christchurch against the top-of-the-table Mystics and third-placed Pulse.  We talk to new Tactix midcourter Paris Lokotui about joining the team mid-way through the ANZ Premiership, getting back on court after injury and building new combinations on defence.

What has it been like getting back on a netball court this year, returning from injury, and joining the Tactix in the ANZ Premiership?

Returning from injury and getting back on a netball court has been something that has been brewing for such a long time.  That definitely fuelled the fire and made the nine-month journey back on court much more worthwhile.  Joining the Tactix and playing in the ANZ Premiership again has been a blessing and I'm super grateful for the opportunity to be back where I left off.

What’s the most difficult part of building new combinations when you’re already halfway through the season?

The most difficult thing so far has been growing the connections on court.  All it takes is time and Greer (Sinclair) had done such an amazing job, so just being able to fill her shoes, understand everyone's style of play quickly and just being able to play some good, exciting netball.

How do you overcome nerves/pressure on game day?

This is something that I still tend to work on. I just have to remember to control the things I can control, to stay in the moment, work for the people around me and give 110% where I can.

What motivates you?

A lot motivates me – my family, my grandparents, my siblings but most of all the ability to live my dream job after being away for quite some time.

It’s a really tight ANZ Premiership this year and the Tactix have a big doubleheader against the Mystics and Pulse – what do you need to focus on for back-to-back matches and how tough will these two teams be?

Absolutely! The ANZ Premiership this year is ridiculously tough and with the table being so close every game is a must win situation. For our double-header this weekend we just want to build from our game against the Steel, give good service throughout the court, bring heaps of energy, as well as having a great start would be ideal too.

Do you have a pre-game routine?

I don't have a pre-game routine, but I do a couple of things that help me get into game mode. I have to wear specific ankle high socks and I love to blast my music to get in the zone.  Also, I will always put my netball shoes on at the venue and I make sure I say a prayer before leaving the changing room.

What’s your favourite music to listen to pre-game?

I love to listen to a lot of RnB and Worship music on the way to the stadium. I've currently been listening to a lot of Country music as well, but one song I have to play before I warm up is Be Faithful by Fatman Scoop.

What’s your favourite pre-game food?

Favourite pre-game food has to be crumpets with butter and jam!
